Amped 2 Introduces Brand New Riding Style: Snowskate
Steve @ 12:32 PM EDT
Microsoft Game Studios announced today that it’s exclusive snowboarding game for the Xbox, “Amped 2,” will feature the new snowboarding alternate – snowskate. Think skateboarding on the snow, with a small board rather than wheels under a skate-sized deck.
It was just a matter time before someone put surfing, snowboarding and skateboarding together and Andy Wolf was just that guy. Wolf, a professional snowboarder, would slip into town after a competition and try to ride urban rails and perform tricks with his snowboard just like a skateboarder, but the size of the board and the binding were awkward and got in the way. Just like many revolutionary ideas, he locked himself in his garage, tinkered a little and developed the first snowskate prototype.
A snowskate, shorter and narrower than a snowboard, has a twin-tipped skateboard-sized board with a foam top sheet for grip. Some boards have a plastic, channeled base for stability and tracking on rails, and others have an even smaller board with edges attached under the upper deck. Free from the binding, riders can master the same tricks as skateboarders like kick flips, ollies, nose slides and exciting one-footed tweaks, stalls and rails. The addition of snowskate to “Amped 2” provides gamers with a whole new set of tricks to master, significantly increasing the fun and replay-ability of the game. Snowskate will have skateboarders picking up a controller to see if they can do the same things on the snow that they can on the pavement.
Snowskate in “Amped 2” is easy to pick up, but has levels of complexity and difficulty that make this feature a fun break from the pressure of a pro snowboarding career. This mode of play is wrapped into the career, enabling you to take a step back from going pro and try all new types of riding on each level. The “Amped” franchise continues to give gamers the opportunity to go deep inside the snowboarding community and experience the ultimate snowboarding lifestyle. New additions to “Amped 2”, like snowskate and the way to ride with style aka “steez,” provide gamers with the ultimate snowboarding simulation. ”Amped 2” also features some of the top mountains from around the globe, including Laax in Switzerland, Mt. Hood in Oregon and Mt. Buller in Australia and many of the top professional snowboarders including Jeremy Jones, JP Walker, Mikey LeBlanc, Travis Parker, Bjorn Leines and Janna Meyen. In addition, world-renowned terrain park designer, Chris “Gunny” Gunnarson, lent his expertise exclusively to the game’s level design. “Amped 2,” which will be Xbox Live enabled, is scheduled for release in October.
Snowskate has not hit the mainstream, but on July 5, Mt. Hood hosted the first ever US Open of Snowskating with more than 20 contestants sliding through the largest snowskate park ever created. Snowskate, like “Amped 2,” is all about hanging out with friends and relentlessly practicing a move over and over until it’s right for no greater reward than the stoke of pulling something nearly impossible.

Conspiracy Corp Sues Eminem on Videogame
Steve @ 4:36 PM EDT
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (July 22, 2003) - Conspiracy Entertainment Corp, a Los Angeles based producer of video games, today sued Eminem’s Management Company, Cousins Entertainment, Inc. and Eminem’s Licensing Agent, Bravado International Group, Inc. for fraud and breach of contract arising out of a video game Conspiracy was set to release featuring Eminem music videos.
According to Conspiracy, Eminem, through his agents, Cousins and Bravado, reneged on a lucrative video game license agreement in order to cut a better deal with another company as a result of Eminem’s increasing popularity. Conspiracy Chief Financial Officer Keith Tanaka claims that all of the parties were in agreement about the first video game project before the licensing agreement was ever signed. According to Tanaka, “we were not aware of any problems until we started getting some press on our new product. Then we started hearing rumors about Eminem negotiating a better deal with Rockstar Games or some other big video game publisher. Apparently, our deal must have been in the way because there was no other reason for Bravado and Cousins to stop us from introducing a video game that was approved before the contract ever got signed.”
The suit filed by Conspiracy seeks over $5,000,000 in damages based upon Eminem’s agents’ failure to honor the licensing agreement. When asked whether Conspiracy thought that Eminem (Marshall Mathers) was personally involved in the decision to dishonor the contract, Conspiracy’s President, Sirus Ahmadi, declined to speculate, stating only that “we hope everyone can arrive at a quick resolution now that Eminem is fully aware of the problem.”

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - July 14, 2003 - Ubi Soft Entertainment, one of the world's top game publishers, rounded out its AAA cast of voice talent for its highly anticipated action-shooter, XIII, by signing David Duchovny as its title character. XIII is an epic, conspiracy-driven thriller set in a highly stylized graphic-novel world and is scheduled to release on all game consoles as well as the PC, in Fall 2003.

"Players are in for a lot of surprises with this game - things are never what they seem, making for good drama and a great game."
XIII is a stylish, first-person shooter thriller featuring a conspiracy of epic proportions. David Duchovny takes on the role of XIII, a secret agent with complete amnesia who must discover clues behind his true identity. “We’re excited to bring this hit animated television series to life and give gamers the chance to play as their favorite Justice League heroes on next-generation consoles,” said Helene Sheeler, vice president of marketing, Midway.
The Justice League’s adventures began in 1940 when DC Comics’ All-Star Comics introduced the first-ever group of super heroes in a comic book series, entitled Justice Society of America, which ran until 1951. DC Comics revived the concept in March 1960, renaming it Justice League of America. It became the longest-running television cartoon based on a comic book when Hanna-Barbera Studios produced it as Super Friends (1973), The All-New Super Friends (1977), Challenge of the Super Friends (1978), The World's Greatest Super Friends (1979) and The Super Friends Hour (1980) for Saturday mornings, each with new characters added and each produced for ABC Television.
Justice League of America, a monthly comic book, continues to be one of DC Comics’ best-selling titles, consistently ranking among the top ten in industry sales. The Warner Bros. Animation- produced series, Justice League, premiered on Cartoon Network on Nov. 17, 2001, and quickly became an audience favorite with children and adults alike, ranking consistently in the network’s top ten performers. Issue #1 of the animated series tie-in comic book, entitled Justice League Adventures, debuted in Nov. 2001 and is one of the industry’s best-selling kid’s comics.

NARC is an all-new remake of the 1988 cult arcade classic of the same name, which was the first action/shooter videogame to put players in the middle of the war on drugs. Assuming the role of Hitman and Max Force, ex-partners reluctantly reunited as members of the elite NARC squad, gamers must rid the world of the powerful international drug cartel, K.R.A.K., which is run by the evil drug lord, Mr. Big. To stop the spread of the new ultra-powerful designer street drug, Liquid Soul, gamers must use street-style, hand-to-hand combat and a large array of weapons against enemies.
“Following a deep and twisting story that drives the character players control, NARC challenges gamers to bust and kill ruthless thugs and criminals in order to bring justice to the drug-infested streets,” said Helene Sheeler, vice president of marketing, Midway.
Hitman and Max Force embark on an authentic, drug-busting mission around the globe, from the United States to Asia and Eastern Europe, and finally to Mr. Big’s private island hideout. To accomplish their goal, gamers can choose from an arsenal of weapons to use as well as down-and-dirty street-fighting skills. The armed combat features third-person shooting, plus a zoomed-in third-person view for the perfect shot, while the unarmed combat features roughhouse action with an authentic street-fighting style, including wild punches, head-butts, knee-strikes, grappling and throwing.
