Conflict Desert Storm #1 Seller in Europe

Released only 10 days ago, SCi Games’ newest title, CONFLICT: DESERT STORM, has created a storm of its own and has taken the number one spot across all formats, according to recent Charttrack figures. The game, which was released simultaneously across Xbox, Sony Playstation 2 and PC on 13th September, is now the best selling computer and video game in the UK.

CONFLICT: DESERT STORM, is based on the 1991 Gulf War and is a 3rd person squad based action game, where the player takes control of an elite SAS or Delta Force Unit, ordered behind enemy lines to infiltrate enemy territory and neutralize key targets. The success of the game marks the second time in 12 months that SCi Games have achieved a #1 position in the gaming charts, following on from the success of THE ITALIAN JOB on PSOne last year.

Dubbed MotoGP: Online Demo, this playable, trial version will allow players to experience the world's fastest, most advanced form of motorcycle racing online with up to 16 other Xbox Live players on three separate courses.     Microsoft Officially Acquires Rare

    REDMOND, Wash. -- Sept. 24, 2002 -- Microsoft Corp. today announced it has purchased U.K.-based Rare Ltd., one of the world's leading video game developers, further demonstrating Microsoft's commitment to providing the most innovative interactive experiences available on its Xbox (TM) video game system. Rare has been the mastermind behind some of the most popular video games in history, including such global multimillion sellers as "GoldenEye 007," "Perfect Dark," "Banjo-Kazooie" and "Donkey Kong 64." Under terms of the $375 million cash transaction, Rare will today begin creating exclusive console gaming blockbusters for Xbox.

    In a statement made from Seville, Spain, where the announcement was made to both a live and worldwide webcast audience during the company's annual X02 event, Chris Stamper, chairman and technical director of Rare, said, "Our mission at Rare has always been to make the industry's best games for the widest possible audience. Teaming with Microsoft gives us the best opportunity to accomplish this goal.     Rare grabbed the attention of the video game world in 1994 with its creation of "Donkey Kong Country." Selling more than 8 million copies, "DKC" went on to become the biggest- selling 16-bit title in history.

    Rare became one of the premiere developers in the world, with sales averaging 1.4 million units per title and nearly 90 million games sold since the company was founded. Five of the top 20 all-time-best-selling N64 titles were developed by Rare, including "GoldenEye 007," the second-best-selling game in North America, with worldwide sales topping 8 million.

    Chase: Hollywood Stunt Driver Goes Gold

    It's hard to believe it has already been a year since we were attacked, and throughout all this we have all stayed together. United more then ever, we are not going to let terrorists get in the way of our freedom. Remember who was lost, and give up something on this day.

    Hi My Name is Turok

    Five people who have changed their names by deed poll to that of a character in a video game in a unique marketing initiative have been revealed today. The five, comprising men and women, have all changed their identities to Turok, the hero character of a new game Turok Evolution being released by Acclaim Entertainment for PlayStation 2, Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo GameCube on September 6th.

    The new Turoks have completed the legal formalities and instead of being known as Ross Davison, Paul Frederick Codling, Matthew Grist, Andrew Ian Boughflower and Lheila Rebeccah Oberman, will simply be called Turok. Everything from their passports to their telephone bills will now carry their new identities.

    The idea behind Identity Marketing, which emanates from Dr Simeon Cantrell of the Institute of Science in Marketing, is that in the same way as a company might buy a television commercial, a billboard poster or a radio spot, they can now buy human identities. Acclaim UK has been the first company to embark on this cutting edge marketing route.

    Proving the fact that Dr Cantrell believes that this type of marketing will become commonplace within the next 5 years, over 10,000 people applied to change their names to Turok through the website set up by Acclaim at www.mynameisturok.com.

    Xbox Now Made in China

    REDMOND, Wash. -- Sept. 2, 2002 -- In line with its previously stated strategy, Microsoft Corp. today announced an agreement with Wistron Corp., the manufacturing arm of Acer Inc., to manufacture the Xbox (TM) video game system. Acer is a valued OEM partner for Microsoft and will further enhance the competitive position of Xbox in the market. Wistron is the second manufacturing partner for Xbox, joining Flextronics, a valued manufacturing partner since the launch of Xbox. With both Wistron and Flextronics on board, there are two manufacturing partners focused on improving cost and operational efficiencies while maintaining superior quality for Xbox.

    Wistron will begin manufacturing consoles in its Zhongshan, China, facility before the end of the calendar year. The facility will provide manufacturing services for Xbox from parts to final packaged product including parts procurement, assembly and integration, testing, and final box build.

    "As the world's leading contract manufacturer for the PC industry, we are looking forward to working on this groundbreaking game console and helping Microsoft meet its manufacturing goals and consumer demand for Xbox.
