    Steve @ 3:23 PM EDT
SAN RAFAEL, Calif.--Sept. 30, 2004--ESPN Videogames today announced that the number-one rated(a) pro basketball video game, ESPN NBA 2K5 is now available at major retailers across North America. The highly acclaimed series continues its legacy of innovation as well as unmatched gameplay and visuals to create the most authentic virtual NBA experience. ESPN NBA 2K5 is available for the PlayStation(R) 2 computer entertainment system and Xbox(R) videogame system from Microsoft(C).

"I am immensely proud of ESPN NBA 2K5," stated Greg Thomas, president of Visual Concepts -- makers of ESPN Videogames. "No other NBA video game matches the visual quality and realistic gameplay mechanics featured in ESPN NBA 2K5. Consumers are going to love the extensive additions made to The Association, an even greater integration of ESPN's signature presentation, and the enhancements found in IsoMotion(2), and the 24/7 mode. Simply put, ESPN NBA 2K5 is the most realistic basketball video game ever."

IsoMotion(2) builds upon the revolutionary IsoMotion system, giving players the creativity and freedom to perform tricky moves to throw off their opponents. IsoMotion(2) expands the ability to perform crossovers and spins in the backcourt, adding new techniques to mid-range and 'in the paint' plays. The new hop step allows gamers to perform a forward hop step or a lateral spin step to get into the post. Once a player is 'in the paint,' IsoMotion(2) can be used while backing down a post-up defender to deftly execute pump fakes, pivot feints, and up-and-under maneuvers. ESPN NBA 2K5's IsoMotion(2) gives gamers the ability to recreate the breathtaking moves seen in every NBA highlight reel.

The popular 24/7 mode -- an original mode that allows gamers to create the best streetball players -- gets an extreme makeover becoming twice its previous size by adding over 100 new items, multi-player games, and new training and timed mini-games. In 24/7 mode, gamers will personalize their create-a-player with hundreds of different accessories, train the player in various exercises and drills, and take on the NBA elite to become the best streetball player. Featuring more player customization, "create your own shoe" and online exclusive items that gamers can win only when playing online, 24/7 promises round-ball fans a unique and addictive basketball experience.

ESPN NBA 2K5 also introduces a groundbreaking approach to team management, with a new franchise mode, The Association. Gamers experience all the drama of running a pro basketball franchise as the importance of maintaining good team chemistry is stressed. New to any NBA video game are Player Personalities, which are used when NBA players visit the general manager with specific questions or concerns that need to be addressed. Different personalities require different responses and the user's response can make the difference between greater team chemistry and a lackluster team effort. The Association also introduces the Full Authority simulator, which allows gamers to simulate basketball games while retaining full control of decisions and strategies for each player.

ESPN-stylized overlays and camera angles infuse ESPN NBA 2K5, providing an enhanced ESPN presentation complete with commentary by Hall of Fame legend Bill Walton and sideline reporter Michele Tafoya.

ESPN Videogames are produced by Visual Concepts, SEGA's sports studio.

Iron Phoenix to Support Xbox Live 3.0
    Steve @ 2:04 PM EDT
CARLSBAD, CA - SEPT 23, 2004 - Sammy Studios, Inc., a developer and publisher of interactive entertainment content, today announced that "Iron Phoenix" will support Xbox Live(TM) 3.0 when it releases in the first quarter of 2005. "Iron Phoenix," the first-ever 16-player online fighting game, will incorporate features built into the latest iteration of Xbox Live that allow players to form teams as well as organize and host tournaments. These features are ideal for "Iron Phoenix," a video game that combines squad-based play and strategies traditionally found in online first-person shooters with fighting game-style melee combat. Developed by InterServ International, Inc. exclusively for the Xbox(R) video game system from Microsoft Corp., "Iron Phoenix" has an MRSP of $49.99 and is not yet rated.

"Gamers should be ready for unprecedented single and multiplayer experiences with 'Iron Phoenix,' a game that combines two very popular genres to introduce an entirely new form of game play," said Tim Pivnicny, senior VP of sales and marketing, Sammy Studios, Inc.

"Iron Phoenix" introduces team-based fighting for up to 16 players battling it out simultaneously in massive indoor and outdoor arenas. Players engage each other in melee combat using a fight system where moves and combinations are dictated by weapons rather than characters. "Iron Phoenix" offers nine weapons, each with a unique arsenal of powerful strikes, special moves, range attacks and combinations. The game brings a new element to the fighting game experience with play modes that rely on team strategy and cooperative combat, featuring such abilities as combos strung together between team members or multiple opponents engaged by a single character's combo attack. "Iron Phoenix" incorporates fight styles from Kung-Fu and other weapons-based martial arts, and takes inspiration from popular films of the genre by adding superhuman techniques and wire-fu. "Iron Phoenix" also offers a single-player adventure where players can uncover weapons, characters and environments, and experience the game's rich premise set in a mythical China and inspired by popular martial arts epics.

"The game's online multiplayer mode is designed to be team-oriented, very much like popular online FPS games, yet 'Iron Phoenix' is a fighter at its heart," said Tim Hess, producer on "Iron Phoenix," Sammy Studios, Inc. "We know that 'Iron Phoenix' is going to foster intense competition, and therefore we have always thought it essential to make performing tasks like creating clans and populating and hosting tournaments as easy as possible. Xbox Live 3.0 features facilitate this, letting players get to what matters most - experiencing 3D fighting on a battle scale with 15 other players."

"Iron Phoenix" will incorporate nearly all Xbox Live 3.0 features into its own online feature set. Xbox Live 3.0 offers team and messaging features that allow players to easily form clans and communicate among clan members. "Iron Phoenix" will allow players to form their clan and assign it a special gamer tag so that all members are automatically recognized. Clan members can then use Xbox Live 3.0 messaging features to send updates to existing teammates and even hold try-outs and interviews to qualify new members. "Iron Phoenix" will also support video messaging for those equipped with web cams. For competitions, "Iron Phoenix" will let clans organize and host tournaments for up to eight teams, with challengers and their statistics, as well as tournament results tracked through the Xbox Live service.

"Iron Phoenix" follows the fate of a set of powerful weapons created from shards of a massive meteor. A legend claiming absolute power to anyone who controls all the weapons becomes the thunder portending a storm; a call to arms for the greatest warriors to gather for the final decisive battles. More information on "Iron Phoenix," including downloadable art, screenshots and videos, is available at the game's dedicated web site http://www.ironphoenix.com , and at the "Iron Phoenix" community at http://forums.sammystudios.com

    The Movies Online Contest
    Steve @ 12:53 PM EDT
Santa Monica, CA, September 23, 2004 – So you want to be in pictures? Activision, Inc. and Lionhead Studios are hosting an online contest where fame is the ultimate prize. Fans of the forthcoming game The Movies™ are invited to design their own studio logo. The winning logos will appear in the game for use on the studio entry gates, throughout the back lot, during opening film credits, and the designer will receive acknowledgment in the game.

Fans who are interested in participating in this contest can view the official rules and submit up to five entries at: http://www.themoviesgame.com/logocompetition.html. The images submitted must be a square image, 256 by 256 pixels in size, preferably on a transparent background, and be in one of these formats: tga, tiff, png, gif. Fans are encouraged to create an original piece of art that doesn’t contain names or text and does not refer to products or trademarks.

The Movies logo competition begins on September 20 and ends on October 20. The production team at Lionhead Studios will judge all entries and pick the top three logos for use in the game. The winners and their designs will be announced on November 30 at http://www.themoviesgame.com.
In The Movies, the studio logo is an important game element as it appears on crew clothing, the water tower, flags, and most importantly, the credits for every film created.

Developed by Lionhead Studios’ Peter Molyneux, a pioneer in the “life simulation” genre, The Movies lets gamers become Hollywood players by creating unique movies and releasing them from the studios they build, starring the actors they discover and develop. Players create and design their own studio lot from which they select scripts, dress sets, choose costumes, determine the intensity of the action, dub voice-overs, score music, and write their own subtitles to create movie masterpieces that they can share online with friends. Gamers can become movie moguls who discover stars, managing their fame from young unknowns to through the twilight of their careers, or let focus on directing movies from their favorite time periods. The Movies has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

Fable Breaks Records In First Week
    Steve @ 12:40 PM EDT
Microsoft Game Studios today announced that Fable, the ground-breaking Xbox® roleplaying adventure game, has had an amazing start at retailers across North America in its first week of release, breaking records and selling through more than 375,000 units (grossing roughly $18.7 million U.S.). Fable sets the stage for a spectacular holiday season for Microsoft Game Studios by paving the way for titles such as Halo 2, Blinx 2 and MechAssault 2. Sales records are being broken at retailers throughout North America: the game was EB Games' biggest first-week sales for any Xbox title ever; it broke Game Rush's first-day sales record for any game; it is the No. 1-selling overall title on any platform last week at GameStop and is the fastest-selling Xbox game at EB Games Canada for the first week. Fable even grossed more money than the No. 1 box office movie last week, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

"Fable was the best first-week title on Xbox that we've ever had" says Jim Tyo, vice president of EB Games Canada. "The game has exceeded our expectations, and we're confident that this strong sales trend will continue."

"Fable has been a huge hit for us, and it was our number one-selling title across all platforms over the last week" says Dan DeMatteo, president and chief operating officer of GameStop.

In Fable, the players’ every action determines their character's skills, appearances and moralities. Character's life stories are created from childhood through adulthood and on to old age. They can grow from an inexperienced child into the most powerful being in the world, spoken of by all and immortalized in legend. Players may choose the paths of righteousness or dedicate their characters' lives to evil; observing as they transform into reflections of their actions and decisions. Age leaves characters wizened, battle leaves them scarred, gluttony affects obesity. With experiences come advancement and physical change; whether it is by expanding muscles, a keen eye and nimble form or the buzz of magical energies around their finger tips. As players' characters develop, the world reacts to them and their actions. People comment on their successes, failures, appearances and behaviors. Their many opinions are expressed through applause, mockery, trepidation, panic and even flirtation. With each person characters aid and every creature they slay, the world is changed forever. In Fable, gamers decide: “Who will I be?” For more information about Fable, visit the official site at http://www.xbox.com/en-US/fable/default.htm Fable is available in North America for an estimated retail price of $49.99 (U.S.). Fable will be available in Europe in October.

Dark and cinematic, Headhunter: Redemption is a must-have title for fans of the action/stealth genre.

Twenty years after the devastation caused by the Bloody Mary Virus, a new order emerged based on two distinct but totally independent worlds, divided by the ultimate consumerist society Above' and Below'. Maintaining law and society order is veteran Headhunter Jack Wade, older, wiser and battle hardened. At his side is a reluctant new sidekick, the rebellious street kid Leeza X. While stalking the criminal masterminds of the shadowy underworld, they are led into the greatest danger of their lives and must overcome something much more sinister than a simple human threat.

"Headhunter: Redemption is a dark, cinematic production rich in third-person combat and strategic stealth scenarios," said Heather Guzenda, product marketing manger, SEGA of America, Inc. "Storytelling is now a critical aspect of a videogame production, and Amuze has outdone itself, re-creating Jack Wade as a grounded, complex anti-hero who is forced to make tough ethical decisions."

Gameplay puts you in control of both Jack Wade and Leeza X, each with their own missions and objectives. The game's focus is evenly divided between action and stealth; the player is given the option to run and gun through levels, or silently sneak past enemies. Both characters have access to a large arsenal of weapons, and are capable of switching to melee (hand-to-hand) combat on the fly.

Headhunter: Redemption (PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Xbox; priced at $39.95) is rated 'M' for mature and is available at retailers nationwide.
