The highly acclaimed series continues its legacy of innovation as well as unmatched gameplay and visuals to create the most authentic virtual NBA experience. ESPN NBA 2K5 is available for the PlayStation(R) 2 computer entertainment system and Xbox(R) videogame system from Microsoft(C).

"I am immensely proud of ESPN NBA 2K5," stated Greg Thomas, president of Visual Concepts -- makers of ESPN Videogames. "No other NBA video game matches the visual quality and realistic gameplay mechanics featured in ESPN NBA 2K5. Consumers are going to love the extensive additions made to The Association, an even greater integration of ESPN's signature presentation, and the enhancements found in IsoMotion(2), and the 24/7 mode. Simply put, ESPN NBA 2K5 is the most realistic basketball video game ever."

IsoMotion(2) builds upon the revolutionary IsoMotion system, giving players the creativity and freedom to perform tricky moves to throw off their opponents. IsoMotion(2) expands the ability to perform crossovers and spins in the backcourt, adding new techniques to mid-range and 'in the paint' plays. The new hop step allows gamers to perform a forward hop step or a lateral spin step to get into the post. Once a player is 'in the paint,' IsoMotion(2) can be used while backing down a post-up defender to deftly execute pump fakes, pivot feints, and up-and-under maneuvers. ESPN NBA 2K5's IsoMotion(2) gives gamers the ability to recreate the breathtaking moves seen in every NBA highlight reel.

The popular 24/7 mode -- an original mode that allows gamers to create the best streetball players -- gets an extreme makeover becoming twice its previous size by adding over 100 new items, multi-player games, and new training and timed mini-games. In 24/7 mode, gamers will personalize their create-a-player with hundreds of different accessories, train the player in various exercises and drills, and take on the NBA elite to become the best streetball player. Featuring more player customization, "create your own shoe" and online exclusive items that gamers can win only when playing online, 24/7 promises round-ball fans a unique and addictive basketball experience.

ESPN NBA 2K5 also introduces a groundbreaking approach to team management, with a new franchise mode, The Association. New to any NBA video game are Player Personalities, which are used when NBA players visit the general manager with specific questions or concerns that need to be addressed. Different personalities require different responses and the user's response can make the difference between greater team chemistry and a lackluster team effort. The Association also introduces the Full Authority simulator, which allows gamers to simulate basketball games while retaining full control of decisions and strategies for each player.

ESPN-stylized overlays and camera angles infuse ESPN NBA 2K5, providing an enhanced ESPN presentation complete with commentary by Hall of Fame legend Bill Walton and sideline reporter Michele Tafoya.

ESPN Videogames are produced by Visual Concepts, SEGA's sports studio.

Iron Phoenix to Support Xbox Live 3.0
    Steve @ 2:04 PM EDT
CARLSBAD, CA - SEPT 23, 2004 - Sammy Studios, Inc., a developer and publisher of interactive entertainment content, today announced that "Iron Phoenix" will support Xbox Live(TM) 3.0 when it releases in the first quarter of 2005. "Iron Phoenix," the first-ever 16-player online fighting game, will incorporate features built into the latest iteration of Xbox Live that allow players to form teams as well as organize and host tournaments. These features are ideal for "Iron Phoenix," a video game that combines squad-based play and strategies traditionally found in online first-person shooters with fighting game-style melee combat. Developed by InterServ International, Inc. exclusively for the Xbox(R) video game system from Microsoft Corp., "Iron Phoenix" has an MRSP of $49.99 and is not yet rated.

"Gamers should be ready for unprecedented single and multiplayer experiences with 'Iron Phoenix,' a game that combines two very popular genres to introduce an entirely new form of game play," said Tim Pivnicny, senior VP of sales and marketing, Sammy Studios, Inc.

"Iron Phoenix" introduces team-based fighting for up to 16 players battling it out simultaneously in massive indoor and outdoor arenas. Players engage each other in melee combat using a fight system where moves and combinations are dictated by weapons rather than characters. "Iron Phoenix" offers nine weapons, each with a unique arsenal of powerful strikes, special moves, range attacks and combinations. The game brings a new element to the fighting game experience with play modes that rely on team strategy and cooperative combat, featuring such abilities as combos strung together between team members or multiple opponents engaged by a single character's combo attack. "Iron Phoenix" incorporates fight styles from Kung-Fu and other weapons-based martial arts, and takes inspiration from popular films of the genre by adding superhuman techniques and wire-fu. "Iron Phoenix" also offers a single-player adventure where players can uncover weapons, characters and environments, and experience the game's rich premise set in a mythical China and inspired by popular martial arts epics.

"The game's online multiplayer mode is designed to be team-oriented, very much like popular online FPS games, yet 'Iron Phoenix' is a fighter at its heart," said Tim Hess, producer on "Iron Phoenix," Sammy Studios, Inc. "We know that 'Iron Phoenix' is going to foster intense competition, and therefore we have always thought it essential to make performing tasks like creating clans and populating and hosting tournaments as easy as possible. Xbox Live 3.0 features facilitate this, letting players get to what matters most - experiencing 3D fighting on a battle scale with 15 other players."

"Iron Phoenix" will incorporate nearly all Xbox Live 3.0 features into its own online feature set. Xbox Live 3.0 offers team and messaging features that allow players to easily form clans and communicate among clan members. "Iron Phoenix" will allow players to form their clan and assign it a special gamer tag so that all members are automatically recognized. Clan members can then use Xbox Live 3.0 messaging features to send updates to existing teammates and even hold try-outs and interviews to qualify new members. "Iron Phoenix" will also support video messaging for those equipped with web cams. For competitions, "Iron Phoenix" will let clans organize and host tournaments for up to eight teams, with challengers and their statistics, as well as tournament results tracked through the Xbox Live service.

"Iron Phoenix" follows the fate of a set of powerful weapons created from shards of a massive meteor. A legend claiming absolute power to anyone who controls all the weapons becomes the thunder portending a storm; a call to arms for the greatest warriors to gather for the final decisive battles. More information on "Iron Phoenix," including downloadable art, screenshots and videos, is available at the game's dedicated web site , and at the "Iron Phoenix" community at

Fable Breaks Records In First Week
    Steve @ 12:40 PM EDT
Microsoft Game Studios today announced that Fable, the ground-breaking Xbox® roleplaying adventure game, has had an amazing start at retailers across North America in its first week of release, breaking records and selling through more than 375,000 units (grossing roughly $18.7 million U.S.). Fable sets the stage for a spectacular holiday season for Microsoft Game Studios by paving the way for titles such as Halo 2, Blinx 2 and MechAssault 2. Sales records are being broken at retailers throughout North America: the game was EB Games' biggest first-week sales for any Xbox title ever; it broke Game Rush's first-day sales record for any game; it is the No. 1-selling overall title on any platform last week at GameStop and is the fastest-selling Xbox game at EB Games Canada for the first week. Fable even grossed more money than the No. 1 box office movie last week, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

"Fable was the best first-week title on Xbox that we've ever had" says Jim Tyo, vice president of EB Games Canada. "The game has exceeded our expectations, and we're confident that this strong sales trend will continue."

"Fable has been a huge hit for us, and it was our number one-selling title across all platforms over the last week" says Dan DeMatteo, president and chief operating officer of GameStop.

In Fable, the players’ every action determines their character's skills, appearances and moralities. Character's life stories are created from childhood through adulthood and on to old age. They can grow from an inexperienced child into the most powerful being in the world, spoken of by all and immortalized in legend. Players may choose the paths of righteousness or dedicate their characters' lives to evil; observing as they transform into reflections of their actions and decisions. Age leaves characters wizened, battle leaves them scarred, gluttony affects obesity. With experiences come advancement and physical change; whether it is by expanding muscles, a keen eye and nimble form or the buzz of magical energies around their finger tips. As players' characters develop, the world reacts to them and their actions. People comment on their successes, failures, appearances and behaviors. Their many opinions are expressed through applause, mockery, trepidation, panic and even flirtation. With each person characters aid and every creature they slay, the world is changed forever. In Fable, gamers decide: “Who will I be?” For more information about Fable, visit the official site at Fable is available in North America for an estimated retail price of $49.99 (U.S.). Fable will be available in Europe in October.

Dark and cinematic, Headhunter: Redemption is a must-have title for fans of the action/stealth genre.

Twenty years after the devastation caused by the Bloody Mary Virus, a new order emerged based on two distinct but totally independent worlds, divided by the ultimate consumerist society Above' and Below'. Maintaining law and society order is veteran Headhunter Jack Wade, older, wiser and battle hardened. At his side is a reluctant new sidekick, the rebellious street kid Leeza X. While stalking the criminal masterminds of the shadowy underworld, they are led into the greatest danger of their lives and must overcome something much more sinister than a simple human threat.

The game's focus is evenly divided between action and stealth; the player is given the option to run and gun through levels, or silently sneak past enemies. Both characters have access to a large arsenal of weapons, and are capable of switching to melee (hand-to-hand) combat on the fly.

Headhunter: Redemption (PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Xbox; priced at $39.95) is rated 'M' for mature and is available at retailers nationwide.

Ghost Recon 2 - Two Different Versions
    Steve @ 3:44 AM EDT
San Francisco, CALIFORNIA – August 31, 2004 – Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest videogame publishers, today announced that it will release two different versions of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon™ 2 for Holiday 2004 – one for the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft and one for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. The PC version is now scheduled to launch in early 2005 in order to once again deliver ground-breaking innovation to the PC audience; more exciting details will follow. One of the most successful game franchises to date, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon titles have sold more than 4.5 million copies worldwide, and the first Ghost Recon remains one of the most successful Xbox Live™ games of all time.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon 2 for PlayStation 2 will be a completely different game from the Xbox version, and the first title in the Tom Clancy franchise built exclusively from the ground up for PlayStation 2. Ubisoft’s Shanghai studio (creators of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® for PlayStation 2) is developing the PlayStation 2 game, while its Red Storm Entertainment development studio continues to focus on the Xbox and PC versions. Ghost Recon 2 for PlayStation 2 occurs four years before – and acts as a prequel to – the Xbox version. The game will be built on the Unreal engine (as opposed to the proprietary Ghost Recon engine used by Red Storm Entertainment) and will also use Havok physics, a rarity in PlayStation 2 games. Ghost Recon 2 for PlayStation 2 will also feature completely unique special effects, cinematic sequences, supporting characters, and online modes.

“Ghost Recon enjoys some of the most dedicated fans in the industry, and we’re showing them some love – and challenging ourselves – by developing two totally different games for Xbox and PlayStation 2 this year,” said Tony Kee, vice president of marketing for Ubisoft’s North American division. “Whatever the platform, Ghost Recon 2’s single-player missions will immerse players in the war of tomorrow, and, like the original Ghost Recon’s award-winning multiplayer levels, the online portion will be second to none. PlayStation 2 gamers have extra cause to celebrate, as Ghost Recon 2 will be the only big military shooter for PlayStation 2 this year.”

About Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon 2 for Next-Generation Consoles
Both console versions of Ghost Recon 2 are set in North Korea – the PlayStation 2 version in the year 2007, and the Xbox version in the year 2011 – and will offer gamers an insider’s view of the way large-scale conflicts will be fought in the near future. Ghost Recon 2 will continue the tradition of intensity and realism associated with Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy brand, with an emotionally charged storyline, a completely redesigned graphics engine and the most intuitive gameplay to date, to fully immerse gamers into the chaos of a high tech war. The game will offer white-knuckle tension and explosive action as it puts players in command of an elite squad of U.S. Special Forces. In addition, the top-notch multiplayer action that gamers expect from Ubisoft will once again place Ghost Recon 2 at the top of online console and PC gaming and will make Ghost Recon 2 a must-have for all online gaming fans.

    Street Racing Syndicate Now Available
    Steve @ 3:33 AM EDT
San Jose, Ca., (Aug. 31, 2004) – Get ready to trick out your ride and lay it all on the line… Leading video games developer and publisher Namco Hometek Inc. announced today that Street Racing Syndicate (SRS ), one of the most realistic, high-speed multiplayer street racing games to date, has shipped to retail outlets nationwide for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, the XboxŇ videogame system from Microsoft and the Nintendo GameCube.

Fast cars. Hot cities. Hotter women. With 50 officially licensed damageable vehicles, hundreds of after market parts, roaming police cruisers, an in-game dyno that measures actual peak torque and horsepower in real-time and 18 of the import scene’s hottest female models SRS pushes the street racing scene to the limit.

“We're in this because we love driving, tuning, and gaming. Simple as that,” said Robert Zalot, the producer of SRS. “We know the authentic street racing scene and we wanted to really deliver a game that lived it—the cars, the girls, the music, the flavor—the life…SRS.”

SRS offers some of today’s hottest import rides including the Mitsubishi Evolution VIII, MAZDASPEED RX8, Mazda RX-7 Spirit R, Subaru Impreza S202, Toyota Supra, VW Golf VR6, Nissan 350Z, Nissan Skyline GT-R, and many more!

Racers can battle head to head via split-screen, System Link, or even take it online with Xbox Live and risk the pink slip to their car for the chance to win their rivals’ cars permanently! Day or night, gamers can tear through live traffic against rival racers in actual locations based on L.A., Miami and Philly, or explore miles of open city streets between tuning and racing!

Eighteen of the hottest models in the import scene grace the levels of SRS including Sasha Singleton, Francine Dee, Tila Nguyen, Courtney Day, Angelica Bridges, Flo Jalin and more. Accept Angelica’s challenge and you’ll find yourself trying to keep up with the one of the fastest Celica’s on the planet, or take on Sasha’s challenge and gain some respect points by blowing the competition away and getting to the finish line first. Win a challenge and the girls will not only see you in a whole new light, but you’ll unlock their special videos and they may even ride with you to the race.

SRS’ driving and tuning realism has even been embraced by the automotive scene, with Import Tuner magazine recently saying, “…this game has become absolutely amazing. Simply put, it will trounce its competition.”

SRS is rated T for Teen by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board and carries a suggested retail price of $49.99. For more information about the game check out the SRS web site at

Soundtrack for Splinter Cell Chaos Theory Announced
    Steve @ 3:22 AM EDT
San Francisco, CALIFORNIA – August 30, 2004 – Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest videogame publishers, today announced that innovative recording artist Amon Tobin is composing the original soundtrack for Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® Chaos Theory™, scheduled to ship for PC and the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft for Holiday 2004. Known for his vanguard production and composition work, Tobin uses an eclectic array of sounds, both electronic and organic, to create unique sonic landscapes, and excels at conjuring diverse and distinctive musical atmospheres that range from playful to menacing.

“Music and sounds have always been an extremely important aspect of Splinter Cell games, and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® Chaos Theory™ will use both in innovative ways that enhance the sense of immersion and directly affect gameplay,” said Tony Kee, vice president of marketing for Ubisoft. “Ubisoft always seeks out creative collaborators of the highest quality, and Amon Tobin’s moody, genre-bending, cutting-edge music is the perfect fit for Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® Chaos Theory™.”

Tobin’s original score will be heard throughout Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® Chaos Theory™; he and label Ninja Tune will also be releasing a companion soundtrack CD featuring extended and re-mastered versions of the themes from the game to coincide with the release of the game this year, with a limited collectors edition mixed in 5.1 surround sound planned for release in spring 2005.

“It quickly became clear that Ubisoft was interested in music that completely intertwined with the overall fabric of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® Chaos Theory™ to an extent that has not been heard before in video games – the development team members are true perfectionists, and we labored meticulously over every aspect of the sound design,” said Tobin. “No concessions were made that would compromise the integrity of the soundtrack, and that’s rare in a project of this scale.”
